FAQ
What are the premium rates?
Overtime and the first 8 hours of holiday work get 1.5×, holiday hours beyond 8 get 2×, and night work gets a 0.5× premium, under article 56 of the Labour Standards Act.
Which hours count as night work?
Work between 22:00 and 06:00. When it overlaps with overtime, both the overtime and the night premium apply.
Does this apply to small businesses?
Premium pay applies only to workplaces with five or more employees. Below five, hours are paid at the plain 100% rate.
How is an hourly wage derived from a salary?
The monthly salary is divided by 209 hours, the statutory monthly hours of a 40-hour week including weekly holiday pay.
