  2. Add up the income tax and local income tax withheld from every payslip over the year and enter the total.
  3. Pick how many dependents you claim and how many children are aged 8 to 20.
  4. Add extra income deductions for pension accounts, card spending or medical costs, and any extra tax credits you have.
  5. The refund or the extra amount you owe appears at once, with the full calculation in the table below.

FAQ

Why does the result show an amount owed?

It means the tax withheld during the year was less than the final tax. Your employer either withholds the difference from a later payslip or squares it up at the next settlement.

How do I count dependents?

Count yourself plus any spouse, parents or children who qualify for the basic deduction (yearly income of 1 million won or less). If you support only yourself, enter 1.

Are card and medical expenses included?

Special deductions such as card spending, medical or education costs are not applied automatically. Compute the amount yourself and put it in the extra income deduction field.

Will this match my exact refund?

No. The calculator only reflects the earned income deduction, basic personal deduction, national pension deduction, earned income tax credit and standard tax credit. The final figure comes from the Hometax simplified service or your payslip.
